A sprocket is a toothed wheel that engages directly with the links of a roller chain to transfer rotational power between two or more shafts. The mechanism is elegantly simple as the drive shaft rotates the sprocket, each tooth 'pockets' a chain roller in perfect sequence, pulling the chain and rotating the driven shaft at a speed determined by the ratio of teeth between driver and driven sprockets. Tooth count ratio max 6:1: A drive ratio greater than 6:1 on a single chain stage causes the smaller sprocket to wear much faster. Use a two-stage drive for higher ratios.
